July 20, 2010—CASTLE BUILDING & REMODELING, INC. is a proud recipient of a 2010 Achievement in Consumer Excellence (ACE) award for providing an elite level of service to consumers.

Hosted by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI of MN), the ACE award program gives consumers the opportunity to rate remodeling service providers in five categories: quality, responsiveness, meeting deadlines, professionalism, and communication. To qualify for the award companies must submit five consumer completed surveys and receive an average rating of four out of a possible five points across all categories, without having any score lower than three in any individual category. CASTLE BUILDING & REMODELING, INC. is honored to have achieved this service award.

NARI of Minnesota established the Achievement in Consumer Excellence (ACE) Award in 2010 to increase consumer confidence in hiring NARI of MN members and to recognize industry professionals who provide superior service based on consumer ratings. Award recipients will be recognized in local publications and on the NARI of Minnesota website.

NARI is a not-for-profit trade association committed to promoting the interests of its members within the remodeling industry, and acting as a resource to remodel-ready homeowners. The only national association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry, NARI acts as an industry spokes group.

Beginning in April 2010, a new federal law requires contractors that are hired to perform renovations, repairs, or painting projects in homes, child-care facilities, and schools built before 1978 that will disturb lead-based paint to be certified in lead procedures and to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

Loren Schirber, owner of Castle Building & Remodeling, has attained the necessary certification by the Enviromental Protection Agency, which allows Castle to perform renovations in a lead-safe manner and according to the guidelines.

Remodeling is notorious for creating dust, and dust is the main source of lead from existing lead paint in homes. Keep yourself and your family safe – Make sure that your contractor is certified for handling lead per the EPA guidelines.

For more information on lead, call the the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323) or visit their website at www.epa.gov/lead/nlic.htm.

When: Homes on this free self-guided tour will be open Saturday, April 24th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 25th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

What and Where: This celebration of city living takes place in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Where: 4815 – 10th Ave S, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55417

Why: The Minneapolis & St. Paul Home Tour is coordinated by the Minneapolis Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) and the City of Saint Paul Planning and Economic Development Department, with other corporate and non-profit sponsors. They encourage people to stay in the neighborhoods they love, and to maintain and improve the cities’ housing stock.

Making Two Spaces Into One Creates a Kitchen to Live In while Respecting its Era.

Our 1930’s Tudor-style home boasts a newly remodeled kitchen and a delightful patio. The original kitchen was gutted to the studs and several small walls were reconfigured in order to open up the space. Several doors and windows were replaced with new energy-efficient models, while new custom cherry cabinets were installed with new Cambria countertops. A tile backsplash complements the countertops and adds a touch of our personality to the new space. In order to stay true to the period of the home, we used custom millwork to match the existing. Cork flooring, which we used for its forgiving surface, also adds warmth to the room. Our home is a great example of how existing space can be reconfigured and rooms can be updated without sacrificing the original feel and style of the home.

We invite you to visit us at the Parade of Homes Spring 2010 Remodeler’s Showcase (sm) to see this amazing transformation from tiny 1-story starter home to a 1 1/2 -story dream home. This home, in Highland Village, received a one-story addition off the back to create a larger kitchen and family room. The kitchen features an island that opens up to the family room, which centers on a cozy fireplace. The 1/2-story addition contains a master suite with a sitting area, walk-in closets, and a bathroom with a large shower and dual sinks. To complete this transformation, an open front porch was added to bring out the home’s character and charm.

Please complete a short survey from the Womens’ Press. This survey asks women to vote for their favorites in many categories. We’re hoping that you’ll include Castle Building & Remodeling as your favorite. “Favorite what,” you ask? We were honored to be voted as Favorite Residential Remodeler in 2008 and 2009 and had hoped to make it three years in a row, but our friends at The Womens’ Press have decided the category of favorite Home Remodeler will not be on the survey this year. Hmmm? So we ask that you write Castle in under the last category of “Anything We Left Out?” as “Castle Building & Remodeling – Favorite Design/Build Remodeler.” Click here to complete the survey.

We want to make you aware of an opportunity to get a cash rebate of up to $4,000.00 when remodeling and making your home more energy efficient. There is a program called Project ReEnergize www.projectreenergize.org This money comes from the state of Minnesota and is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Program Details:

1. Castle attended a special class to be a qualified contractor to participate in this program.
2. $2,500,000.00 will become available October 1, 2009.
3. This money will be rebated to home owners on a first come first serve basis.
4. There are certain requirement for the type of windows, attic sealing, or insulation that can be installed. For instance the windows must meet Energy Star requirements. The Marvin windows which I install meet that requirement. I can also install other brands which meet Energy Star requirements.
5. There are no income limitations on the homeowners.
6. This program can be used in addition to the 30% federal tax credit or any other federal or state incentive program.
7. The house has to have been constructed prior to 2000.
8. This money will not last long. We have to sign a contract soon and have the work done within 6 months.
There are a few other small things but if you are interested in upgrading your windows and saving a bunch of money call me and I’ll fill in the details!!!!
